The re-entry of Japanese sports cars from the 70’s to the 90’s is one of the biggest news in the classic car world in recent years. So, here is a list of cars that are interesting and cool enough to catch the attention of any enthusiast, yet old enough to be rare on the streets and desirable. Before you know it, the prices will go up and that dream car will be out of reach. However, once the market recognizes them as good buys, you have a little time to snap up those cars while they are still affordable. So, they are affordable considering their performance, looks, rarity or significance. However, despite the active automobile market, there are a few cars that people have forgotten. This is because if there are buyers, there will be sellers who will form the price. Sometimes, the market promotes some mediocre cars into classics, boosting the price. It’s easy to see how trends have shifted from classic muscle cars, to hot hatches, and from classic VW and Porsches to those 1980s JDM models. It has happened numerous times in the car industry. When that happens, the prices go up and cars become scarce. Since the classic car market is now so diverse, it is constantly looking for new models to promote as the next big thing. That is why you will see those instant classics from the 1990s that have already reached collector car status. In fact, you can consider any vehicle as a collectible if someone has taken the money, time and effort to preserve it, despite its age or rarity. Today, the definition of a collector’s car is wide. But as the market grew, other cars entered the market, such as muscle cars, classic sports cars and roadsters. At first, people only collected the classic models from the 1930s to the 1950s with lots of chrome, bespoke bodies and historical significance. Although the base car was an absolute blast to drive the Type S takes it up a few notches.Since the 1980s, the collector car market has been on the rise. Lastly, a model that deserves far more attention is the Honda Prelude Type S. Theres now a large following for Glanzas in the UK, and when you consider those figures, its easy to see why. In Japan, the Glanza V used turbocharging to create a fearsome 131bhp hot hatch, while the Glanza S had all the looks, but only 85bhp from its naturally aspirated lump. Perhaps thats because, once again, we were denied the really exciting versions. The P90 generation Starlet was a rather dreary small hatchback that failed to generate much excitement amongst British buyers. While collectors get giddy about the VI, especially the Tommy Makinen Edition, it leaves the V looking like a great value option. If you somehow felt your V was not as punchy as a VI, then you could apply a few aftermarket goodies a larger intercooler perhaps as a good start point. It has somewhere in the region of 280bhp, so performance is going to be more than plentiful. The three generations of Mitsubishi Evo from IV to VI share a lot in common, but the Evo V is the rarest of the lot, being produced for just one year between January 1998 and January 1999. The interior is a wonderful place to be, so retro it feels like you're in a time warp! It was one of those cars that visually appeared to age very quickly but in our opinion its sharp nosed retro looks are making a real come back. 104kg lighter and 21.5cm shorter than the more prevalent LWB model this version has the hallmarks of a proper sports car. The short wheel base 300ZX (Or Fairlady Z as its also known in Japan) is an exceptionally rare sight on UK roads.
